


These are the files on the remote system! You can open, edit, save or delete these files on the remote system with the same VS Code controls you’re familiar with. In the screenshot below, notice the familiar file tree on the left. VS Code remote over SSH looks just like the VS Code you’re accustomed to because it is the VS Code you’re accustomed to.

Many Linux systems don’t have a graphical console, so if I try to do that dev work on that remote system, I end up missing features in VS Code that I’ve grown accustomed to like language-specific extensions and terrific graphical integration with git and GitHub.īut there is a VS Code extension that solves this conundrum. You also miss things like syntax highlighting, linting, and even the basics like looking at two files side-by-side.
